Not quite two weeks since our counter was reset Saturdays, and this last blog entry's start again from the airport (we go to London to see my sister). :-) We have recently endured
quietecito
Since the end of our physical journey, we turned in what, quite rightly, a friend described as "emotional journey" means to reunite with family and friends, including new acquisitions meet of 2009 that have not been few (our new nephews Moon and Daniel, and new children's friends). Today there is not post-holiday syndrome, but of course, is that we are still on vacation. For a while, though, so I proposed closing This year's stories are still hot, before plunging back into normal life (whatever normal is our life). And now we are plethoric, with charged batteries and the firm intention to continue our inner peace as much as possible. How long would it last? Who knows ... is complex to store large amounts of energy to release it on demand, and I fear that emotional batteries the problem is the same. But anyway, we apply the best :-)
(... 4 weeks later)
The first of these purposes (to close the blog "hot") and has gone to hell. That's "emotional journey" and the return home was more absorbent than I imagined, and by now we are again more or less reenlistment to our old life. And the first thought is just how quickly you adapt to return, although not without its logic: travel for a year was what we had never done before (although it also makes it the body quickly, mind you :-) but what we are at the back is what we know about life.
is also curious that one of the most listened to comments during these weeks of reunions is that there seems to have been a year ... but of course, given that there are many those who fail to see in person a few times a year (or least sometimes) actually through this blog and post exchanges some entries with practically been more in touch with many in a normal year.
But if you, dear readers, is over a single year for us, I could not summarize in a few lines ... but do not worry, do not intend to do so in many, as I like :-) The animals, however, a few statistics and two or three "owners"? Well there you go:
- How many countries have been the end? 22.
- Wow, that lot! Yes but, what is the number "net" discounting the "posyaques" (because as we are) that have been less than 5 days? 14, less than a month on average per country.
- And that, how many stamps in your passport is translated? Well, in exactly 73 divided into two passports. For if, mid-trip we realized that if we continued at that pace (lots of machine guns at the border stamps in the world), we do not got a passport at the end. And we had ourselves another, after almost pleading, in the consulate of Spain in Hong Kong.
- How many flights? Exactly 38.
- What bus? These have been countless :-) Also has been, although fewer, both trains and boats and all types of vehicles especially in Asia ingenious. Oh, and a number of cumulative hours of driving (rental car) to the left!
- How many pictures? Some 6400. 17 half-day leave, which are numerous ... but considering that there have been several days of shipment, relax, logistics, etc. in which practically do photos, you can make to the idea that I had to compensate elsewhere. And there have been many "Kodak moments" throughout the trip; situations of those who deserve great forever captured in a photo. But as they used to involve local people I've rarely done because at the time you pull the camera, you lose the spontaneity even in the remotest corners of the world (not to mention that in many countries is a lack of respect.) However, I compensated in a number of what I would call Kodak places "so unique landscapes that I was glued to the trigger finger, each new perspective another picture looked different and falling, do you understand? Consequences of the digital age :-) Of course, once back home I wrote all the panoramas I made during the year, and I uploaded the latest album of the year .
- How many books you read? course, for me the experience is that I read as my life: 18 books.
- What country spent more time? Brazil (month and a half), followed closely by Chile.
- What has been the most heat? India, Vietnam heels.
- And the coldest? New Zealand.
- Is the most expensive? French Polynesia.
- Is Cheaper? Laos.
- And the best "value for money? South Africa.
- Well, but how much pasta you have polished, well-heeled? This is something that many people question, and few verbalize. A person having a genuine interest, I tell the detail you need when you want ... but to give you an idea: we have spent very little more than what we spend here a year either. And those who know us know that we are nothing Gastone, but ... is it about living in an expensive, if you can save, the money elsewhere spreads you more.
- What countries have you liked most? Botswana and Nepal.
- What less? For more than "no taste", better to say which countries have been below our initial expectations, mainly India, and to a lesser extent Vietnam and Brazil.
- Where Would you live? Especially in New Zealand or Chile.
- If you start over, would you do differently? course. I never understood why that "I do not regret anything, I would do the exact same" ... I mean, 100% agree with the first half, but once you have gone through something a first time, I always do different things (better) if I had a time machine. If we returned to live this year, for example, would spend far more time in Botswana, although we moved area where we were. Or we sacrificed some tourist destinations in Brazil to go to see a friend of the family who did not visit and catch us out of the way. Something that I missed, and have helped me to forget some of the tensions caused by the absurd excess friction is bringing me shoes and have come to run from time to time (together with local brokers, as additional incentive) . We also brought fewer clothes cold. In the end, and many other less important details that we would do differently.
----------------------------------------------- -----
Many of these questions have you done to us these days of reunion. There have been others that have surprised us ( how much you bought? ), or have us smiling ( where more handsome? ). They are also curious your expectations on how many people imagine that back. Many were waiting for us thin as sticks, imagine combining "poor countries" to "hungry people out there" and "poor, have eaten what little" ... in short, nothing is further from reality, as has been seen in the photos (slow but steady progression toward a slight excess weight now will cost us to get rid :-/). We imagine many cansadÃsimos a year without stopping ... thing nor, for us this year we've lived has been many things, but not tired.
But among all, deserves special mention the question of our friend Iñaki: have you found a pattern that defines, so to speak, to good people? It's a great question, as you can imagine complicated to answer on two lines. And is that goodness, here and around the world, takes many forms. But reflecting on those countries where the highest density of kindness we have seen, I would venture to say that the most common pattern is the simplicity . When your priorities in life are few and simple, but not easy to get, when you see more or less filled you feel lucky ... and it is as if all free slot that satisfied the main, is on your list of priorities, holding the innate generosity that many people carry inside ... instead of selfishness and endless ambition so common in this our "fullness of consumption" (as Mafalda).
And finally, speaking of good people we can not close the blog without both items and special thanks:
- A champion in keeping in touch this year : Carol (Eva's sister), whose pregnancy live almost like we're here thanks to "book week" made him the wedge.
- Champion comments on the blog : Nachete, which under his pseudonym family (Marinachez & the Pekes) not only made us laugh mourn for ourselves, but we have received many compliments from otr @ s .
------------------------------------------------
------------ Well, we also have asked a lot since we returned, What now? Another great question, because in reality not all related to the same.
- Now what?, for most, supposed interest in what we were going to spend right around where we live, etc.. The Most of you who read this by now know that we are back in Valencia, and that we will follow a season ... enough to take a run and jump again :-)
- What now? for many others it was rather a "what you see is after a world tour?". Phew! Careless, loving travelers, our world would discover many turns finish. Although it is true that not all places and all are in our particular experiences "bucket list", so here are a few haunts for the future:
- Canada and Alaska
- Antarctica
- midnight sun and aurora Borealis (Northern Cape or Alaska)
- Galapagos
- View a volcano in full activity
- Rafting in the Grand Canyon
- Belize Barrier Reef and
- Sea of \u200b\u200bCortez (Baja California)
- Colombia and Venezuela
- Gorillas in Uganda
- Orangutans in Borneo / Sumatra
- Iceland
- Trekking in the vicinity of Everest (Nepal)
- Cuba (Fidel)
- Madagascar
- Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea
- Top Mount Blanc ... and Aneto.
- Etc, etc, etc :-)
Some of these destinations would have gladly included this year because they are of them "young" but no longer fit (Eg, Canada and Alaska). Others, however, almost better to wait because basically need pasta, a lot of money (including Antarctica). And the rest, we will include short trips or our next sabbatical before every-once-more-distant retirement. Because, when we arrive, if we have physical capabilities, mental and economic, I think that instead of a trip last year will continue our other gurus such as American, Gail and Nick (the family that Eva lived summers in Denver, friends Lynn and Steve), every year beyond Colorado winter and sail the world for 3 or 4 months old.
- What now? , for deeper, looking scratch really has changed how we travel. And, frankly, in essence not think we've changed. Unlike people we've met along the way, we do not we fled from anything, we wanted to find the meaning of life, or nirvana, or anything. We wanted nothing more (and no less) to enjoy our greatest passion is travel.
And that we have achieved.
Thank you all for following the intensity with which you have done (ie, each which :-) wanted
